Boca de Tomatlan Beach
The authentic Mexican fishing village of Boca de Tomatlán is 10 miles (16 kms) south of downtown Vallarta and is accessible by land or water. Boca is about 45 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta by bus, or car via Mexico Federal Highway 200. The village is situated on the mountainside, the Horcones river and the Boca Bay. Most of the businesses, restaurants, many rentals and parking are on the east side of the river.
Boca de Tomatlán has hot and humid weather with lots of rain in the summer months. But in the winter and spring months it has beautiful warm days and breezy evenings.
The Boca de Tomatlán beach and river in change yearly and provide the calmest waters in all of Vallarta. The Horcones River reaches its maximum width during the rainy season when it flows forcefully and abundantly. There is a dock available in Boca. Boca de Tomatlán beach offers a port to water taxis going towards Las Animas, Quimixto, Majahuitas and Yelapa. (these beaches are only accessible by water).
Boca de Tomatlán is the last stop on the highway connected to the southern coastline. If you were to continue south on the highway, you would drive into Los Veranos and Las Juntas. Then farther ahead you would drive into El Tuito. These are both rural towns. El Tuito was founded in the XVI century and is approximately 28 kms distance from Boca de Tomatlan. El Tuito is like traveling back in time.
There is a lot of activity in Boca every day. You will see the local fishermen every morning offering their catch to anyone interested. Boca has convenience stores and palapa beach restaurants.
The water adventure possibilities in Boca are numerous. You can participate in activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming.
Boca de Tomatlán is a quaint, busy little village, with lovely and charming residents that will make you feel welcome. You can find the pleasures of paradise in Boca and still be close to the action of Puerto Vallarta.
