Sunday Market at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Marina

Sunday Market at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Marina

The La Cruz Sunday Market or Mercado Huanacaxtle opens each year in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico on the first Sunday in November. Their inception was in 2010. The La Cruz Marina location makes for a special environment of seaside shopping in Banderas Bay. The market started in the La Cruz town plaza, but quickly grew out of that space and relocated to the La Cruz Marina in its first year of development. The Mercado Huanacaxtle rent goes towards the orphanage in Valle de Banderas and education for Mexican nationals. It’s a win win situation all the way around for the La Cruz community as the founders employ over 15 people as well as a seaside band for your listening pleasure while you shop.

Jam Band La cruz sunday marketThe La Cruz Sunday Market now covers the entire area from La Cruz Mercado (Fish Market), out along the Marina boardwalk overlooking the Bay of Banderas.

The sun shining off the ocean and beautiful sailboats coming in and out of the docks only add to the magic of the market. The new location of the market is also convenient because you can just pop into the fish market before heading home and check that off your shopping list!

More vendors come and sell their merchandise each year coming from as far as Guadalajara! The organizers are selective as to which vendors can join the market, preventing the reselling of products and produce. The markets are producer only, which means that all the vendors there must either make it, bake it or grow it. The creativity, talent and passion displayed by this group of local bakers, jewelers, designers, musicians, chefs, artisans, painters, and farmers is amazing! There is a waiting line to get into the La Cruz Sunday Market now, and many take turns selling there.

People really enjoy walking, eating and shopping while listening to the live music being played on the boardwalk. Every Sunday many diverse local and visiting musicians and bands come to play. This brings joy and happiness to the marketplace and adds to the festive vibe. Make sure to tip if you like the music.

Ok, let’s get down to the goods!! So, what is selling at this market? There are so many wonderful booths with wonderful products to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to start! I love the Sunday Market, there are so many home made foods and crafts. We live in Puerto Vallarta and take the bus down and spend the day. They even have live music. I recommend this highly
