La Manzanilla Beach
The town of La Cruz is comfortably nestled around its cherished beach, the beautiful Playa La Manzanilla. The beach is one mile long, broad and has delightful gray sand that is much darker than that of other area beaches. A gentle surf extends outward for about a mile from the shoreline of Playa La Manzanilla. This beach on Banderas Bay has calm ocean waves and shallow water making it a great place for families and kids to swim a float in the water.
Even though all the beaches in Mexico are public, many beaches along the coastline of Banderas Bay are not easily accessible. However, Playa La Manzanilla is easily accessible to the public which is another perk.
There are palapa restaurants on the beach and many close shops selling swimsuits and beach items. The beach is not oversaturated with too many tourists during the low season months, but during the high-season months there is a noticeable shift in activity. The tranquil Playa La Manzanilla swiftly springs to life, becoming quite packed with tourists as well as locals and their families on weekends and major holidays. However, the section of beach at the southern end of La Cruz, fronting a line of newer condo buildings, tends to remain more serene.
The ocean water off the little town of La Cruz is absolutely the best area for fishing within Banderas Bay. Many of its residents are employed in the fishing business. Many of these local fishermen offer fishing excursions for tourists looking for tuna, snapper, sea bass and other fish.
A lovely and modern 400-slip marina was constructed in 2008. Marina Riviera Nayarit is one of the nicest marinas in Mexico and has 351 dock spaces for boats ranging in length from 31 to 400 feet. You will find a daily fish market, dry dock facilities for boats, yacht club, restaurant and sky bar, and a spa around Marina Riviera Nayarit. Parking is readily available throughout the town, marina and beach areas.
