The famous beach Destiladeras, located between km 8 and 9 of the La Cruz de Huanacaxtle - Punta Mita, inside the municipality of Bahia de Banderas, Nayarit, is located just 30 minutes from the international airport of Puerto Vallarta. This beach’s name can be attributed to a now-extinct freshwater waterfall. Destiladeras Beach is rated among the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world and the extensive white sand beach is a family favorite. There is surfing and boogie boarding on the west end of the beach. It is also common to see groups of young people and children playing ball and building interesting sand castles. Most of the year you will find swells reaching 8-12 feet (2.5-3.5 meters) and breaks up to 30 feet in some spots during the summer and winter which the surfers enjoy. The ocean floor does a gradual slope so people can wade in the water at the knee or waist which is perfect for families with children. It is a favorite place to eat some fresh fish at the seafood restaurants housed inside traditional thatched-roof huts while watching the gorgeous sunset in the shade, especially on the weekends. The beach access is through the Nahui development just minutes from La Cruz on the Punta de Mita road on the Riviera Nayarit in beautiful Mexico.
